i) Large Scale Industries
These industries require huge capital for the purchase of equipment and machinery. Any industry that requires more than one crore for establishment is called a Large scale industry
Example:
Iron & steel, Oil refineries, Cement, and Textile industries are the best examples of large scale industries.
ii) Small Scale Industries
Small units that require capital of less than one crore are classified as Small scale industries.
Example:
Silk weaving and Household industries
Cottage industry
It is a type of small-scale industry. It is a decentralised manufacturing business often operated out of a home rather than a purpose-built facility. Hence, they are also called the household industry. They often focus on the production of labour-intensive goods but face a significant disadvantage when competing with factory-based manufacturers that mass-produce goods. These industries are also classified as miscellaneous categories.
Example:
Basket weaving, Pot Making, Handicrafts etc.

Detroit city in Michigan state, USA, is known as the world's traditional automotive centre. In India, Chennai is famous for its automobile industries like GM, Ford, Hyundai and Mahindra. The city accounts for about 60% of the country's automotive exports. Hence, Chennai is known as the Detroit of India.
