Add blue litmus paper to all three test tubes. In one of the test tubes, blue litmus paper turns red, which confirms the base solution. Now take this blue litmus paper to the remaining two test tubes. If there is a change in the colour of red litmus paper to blue we can confirm it to be acid, and the one that remained unchanged contains distilled water.
(a) The colour of phenolphthalein will turn pink in soap solution.

(b) Chlorine is the by-product of chlor-alkali process which is used for the manufacture of bleaching powder
\(2NaCl + H_2O \rightarrow 2NaOH + Cl_2 + H_2\)

(c) Universal indicator specifies the various levels of\( H^+\) ion concentration.

(a) State the colour of phenolphthalein in soap solution.
(b) Name the by-product of chlor-alkali process which is used for the manufacture of bleaching powder.
(c) Name one indicator which specifies the various levels of\( H^+\) ion concentration.

2. List two differences between acids and bases on the basis of chemical properties.
