The physical and mental well-being of an individual is an individual's health. The World Health Organization (\(WHO\)) defined reproductive health as,
Reproductive health is the total well-being of behavioural, emotional, physical, and social aspects of adolescence.
To keep the body hale and healthy, every individual needs to have a balanced diet. As the child grows during adolescence, it is essential to maintain personal hygiene, eat a balanced diet, and undertake adequate physical exercise.
Cleanliness
Cleanliness plays a role in maintaining the mental and physical well being of adolescents. Some common ways to maintain cleanliness:
 
1. Having a bath once or twice daily is recommended while attention to underarms, groins, and genitals. A daily bath is advised as the sweat glands and oil glands secrete increased amounts of sweat and oil in the skin, leading to a bad odour.

Personal hygiene care
  
2. Maintaining the cleanliness of the body is important as there are high chances of getting bacterial, fungal, or other infections.
 
3. The underwear must be changed daily. The underwear should be made of cotton, washed and cleaned every day.
  
Menstrual hygiene:
 
1. Girls should take special care of cleanliness during menstruation. 
 
2. Track of the menstrual cycle is advisable to prepare girls for the onset of menstruation.
 
3. Girls can use homemade pads, tampons, or disposable sanitary napkins every four to five hours. The frequency of changing sanitary napkins depends on the menstrual flow. Changing sanitary pads reduces the chances of infections.
 
4. Instead of cloth, sanitary napkins or tampons are used.
 
5. If a cloth is used, it should be cleaned with soap and hot water and dried in sunlight for reuse.
Physical exercise
Walking, playing in the fresh air and exercising keep the body fit and help relieve stress and maintain mental health. Adolescents must indulge in sports, exercises, dancing, walking, cycling, and other physical activities.

Physical exercises build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints. It also leads to the betterment of health, in sound sleep, and also mental peace. Mental peace and health promotes happiness.

Sleep is important to the well-being of adolescents. It is the most critical time for the body to repair and renew. Sleep helps overcome stress and is essential for physical renewal, growth, and hormone regulation. During the adolescent period, about \(8\) to \(10\) \(hours\) of sleep each night is necessary. However, most teens do not get enough sleep.
Personal hygiene for adolescence
During the adolescent period, the growing children require special attention towards their diet, personal hygiene, sleep, and exercise. Personal hygiene is very important as that serves as an indicator of personality and cleanliness.
 
Personal hygiene starts from the hair and extends up to the toes. The personal hygiene habits the adolescents must follow include:
 
1. Bath daily
 
2. Wash hands before and after the meal.

6. Avoid coughing or sneezing around food items. Close the mouth with a handkerchief or tissues while coughing or sneezing in public places.
 
7. For tasting food, a clean spoon is should always be used.
 
8. Change clothes daily, and wash them cleanly.
 
9. Do not pee or defecate in the open. Use toilets for defecation.
 
10. During sickness, avoid self-medication. Consult a doctor whenever necessary.
