In the previous exercise, we discussed the procedure to download the main installer for LibreOffice. In this exercise, we will see the step-by-step to install the main program for LibreOffice.
Step-by-step procedure to install the LibreOffice main program:
Step 1: Install
Open the folder where the LibreOffice Main Installer has been downloaded and double-click on the Installer.
Step 2: Welcome Screen
The Installation Wizard Welcome dialogue box opens, advising that the installation process is about to be started. Click “Next \(>\)”
Step 3: Setup Type
Another dialogue box opens, giving you a choice whether you want a default installation or you want to choose select particular and components.
If you want a default installation, just press the button “Next\(>\)”. If you need to make special choices, click on “Custom” and then press “Next\(>\)”.
Step 4: Custom Setup
The Custom Setup allows changes to the features that will be installed.
If you would want to install the spelling dictionaries, hyphenation rules, thesauri and grammar checkers:
- Click Expand Optional Components
- Click Expand Dictionaries
For instance, to install Tamil, ensure that Tamil is on the list. If so, select the option "Tamil" and “This feature will be installed on the local hard drive.”
Once all necessary changes to the features have been completed, click the button “Next\(>\)”.
Step 5: File Type
Another dialogue box opens, inviting you to select whether to open Microsoft Office documents with LibreOffice. By default, this feature is not enabled. Check all four checkboxes if you want LibreOffice to open Microsoft Office files (documents, spreadsheets, and presentations).
Click “Next \(>\)”
Step 6: Shortcut and Load during system start-up
Another dialogue box opens, asking you whether:
- To place a shortcut to open LibreOffice on your desktop. The default option is to create a shortcut.
- To load LibreOffice during system start-up.
After your selection, press “Install”.
Step 7: LibreOffice is Installing
If the User Account Control dialogue box shows, click “Yes” to continue the installation.
Step 8: LibreOffice Installation Completed
