History of India between the periods A.D. (CE) 700 and 1700 are classified into:
  • Early Medieval (A.D. (CE) 700 to 1200)
  • Later Medieval periods (A.D. (CE) 1200 to 1700)
Luckily there are a variety of sources of information available for medieval India. The sources like inscriptions, monuments and coins and descriptions left by Arab, Persian and Turkish chroniclers which reveals the information of king’s life, achievements and information of the common people. Though they provide very detailed information about the lifestyle and life of kings and rulers, it reveals inadequate information about the common people.
Sources are the evidence that can be used to understand the social and economic status of the people in the past.
