Florida Keys The Florida Keys is a chain of islands off southern Florida in the USA. It stretches for over 309 km into the Atlantic Ocean. There are beautiful tropical plants all over the islands. The largest island in the chain is Key Largo, which is 50 km long. Along its east coast lies the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, which was the first undersea park in the US. The Overseas Highway, the longest over-water road in the US, joins Key Largo to Key West. It is over 200 km long. Key West is the most important island in the chain, and probably the most famous. It is easy to see why the Keys were the setting for so many romantic films and songs. Nowadays, they provide the perfect location for holidays, water sports or just relaxing in the sun.

The Native Americans Thousand of years before Europeans arrived in America the people now called Native Americans lived there. It is commonly thought that they migrated from Asia between 12,000 and 40,000 years ago. The Native American people lived in different groups all over America. They had many different ways of life and spoke hundreds of different languages. Native Americans lived off the land. They hunted animals such as deer and buffalo and they were farmers, too. They made tools and weapons from stone and wood. They also made beautiful pottery and ornaments. Sadly, today there are only 2 milion Native Americans left.
