"Fair Play" is written by Munshi Premchand

"Fair Play" is a story authored by Munshi Premchand. It was originally written and published in Hindi as "Panch Parameshwar" ("The Holy Panchayat") in the year \(1916\).

The story is about two friends (Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chowdary) who turn into enemies when one of them delivers a verdict against the other. It shows how their friendship gets disturbed and narrates how they reunite as friends by the end of the story. The tale also talks about the panchayat system that exists in the rural parts of India. In the story, the verdict given by the village court (panchayat) separates the friends as well as reunites them.

Like many of Premchand's works, "Fair Play" also deals with a moral. Through the characters and the plot, the author makes us realise that the truth always triumphs, that is, truth will never harm us in any way, and instead, it will help us to win. Therefore, honesty is always the best policy.
