Anna Sewell was an English novelist. She became famous for her novel "Black Beauty", which is considered as one of the best-selling books of all time. She originally intended the book for an adult audience - for people who worked with horses, but it has become famous as a children book.

Anna was physically challenged when she injured her ankles in an accident. She travelled around the world, seeking treatment for her ailment, but she could not find much improvement. She used horse-drawn carriages to transport herself from one place to another. This had a significant influence on her love and compassion towards animals, especially horses.

She wrote this book "Black Beauty" (about a black horse) in her final years when her health started deteriorating. She lived only for a few months after the book was published, but it is believed that she knew her book was a roaring success.
