Theory:

Objective:

To find the percentage of a mark of a certain subject.

We can find out the percentage of a mark of a certain subject if the total mark of the subject and the marks obtained in the subject are the known.

We can use the following formula to find the percentage of a mark.

$\frac{\mathit{The}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{marks}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{obtained}}{\mathit{The}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{total}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{marks}}=\mathit{Percenatge}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{of}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{mark}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\left(x\right)$
Example:
Arya scored 481 marks out of 500 in the annual exam.

Now can you find out how much percentage did Arya scored in the annual exam?

Simply substitute the knowns value in the above formula, we can get the percentage of marks.

$\begin{array}{l}\frac{\mathit{The}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{marks}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{obtained}}{\mathit{The}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{total}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{marks}}=\mathit{Percenatge}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{of}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\mathit{mark}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}\left(x\right)\\ \\ \frac{481}{500}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}=x%\\ \\ \frac{481}{500}\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}=\frac{x}{100}\\ \\ \frac{481}{500}×100=x\\ \\ \frac{48100}{500}=x\\ \\ x\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}=96.2\end{array}$
Therefore Arya scored 96.2 $$\%$$ of marks in the annual examination.

To find the percentage of marks in an exam or a subject we can apply this method.
