The distributive property is one of the most frequently used properties in mathematics. This property lets you multiply each addend separately and then add the products.
This property is commonly associated with multiplication operation over addition and subtraction.

1. Distribution of multiplication over addition:

If \(a\), \(b\) and \(c\) are three integers, then:

\(a ×(b + c) = (a × b) + (a × c)\)
Example:
\(2 ×(3 + 4) = (2 × 3) + (2 × 4)\)
\(2 × 7 = 6 + 8\)
\(14 = 14\)
2. Distribution of multiplication over subtraction:

If \(a\), \(b\) and \(c\) are three integers, then:

\(a × (b - c) = (a × b) - (a × c)\)
Example:
\(2 × (3 - 4) = (2 × 3) - (2 × 4)\)
\(2 × (-1) = 6 - 8\)
\(-2 = -2\)
