Regrouping the integers does not change the value of the sum or the result. This is called the associative property.
This property applies only to operations such as addition and multiplication.

Important!
The associative property does not apply to operations for subtraction.
While subtractingthree or more integers, the change in grouping of integers will change the result.

If \(a\), \(b\) and \(c\) are any three integers, then:

\(a - (b - c) \neq (a - b) - c\)
Example:
\((12 - 11) - 1 ≠ 12 - (1 - 11)\)
\(1 - 1 ≠ 12 -(-10)\)
\(0 ≠ 22\)
