### Theory:

Objective:

To find the percentage of a mark of a certain subject.

We can find out the percentage of a mark of a certain subject if the total mark of the subject and the marks obtained in the subject are known.

We can use the following formula to find the percentage of a mark.

$$\text{Percentage of mark}$$ $$=$$ $$\frac{\text{The marks obtained}}{\text{The total marks}}$$$$\times100$$
Example:
Vinay scored 417 marks out of 500 in the annual exam.

Now can you find out how much percentage did Vinay scored in the annual exam?

Simply substitute the knowns value in the above formula, we can get the percentage of marks.

$$\text{Percentage of mark (x)}$$ $$=$$ $$\frac{\text{The marks obtained}}{\text{The total marks}}$$$$\times100$$

$\begin{array}{l}x=\frac{417}{500}×100\\ \\ x=\frac{41700}{500}\\ \\ x\phantom{\rule{0.147em}{0ex}}=83.4%\end{array}$

Therefore Vinay scored 83.4$$\%$$ of marks in the annual examination.
To find the percentage of marks in an exam or a subject, we can apply this method.
