When guard cells swell as a result of water absorption, stomatal pores openstomatal pores close, and when guard cells swellshrink, the pores close. The turgor fluctuations in guard cells cause stomata to open and close. The stomatal hole is open when guard cells are flaccidturgid, while the stomatal aperture shuts when they are flaccidturgid.
