Diffusion is the process by which substances like water and carbon dioxide move from a region of  highlow concentration to one of  highlow concentration inside a cell. Carbon dioxide  and water move inside the cell when the concentration of both substances is lower when the concentration of both substances is higher  outside the cell than inside. They leave the cell when it has a high concentration inside and a low concentration outside.
