The simplest ketone is reyonmuscone nylonpropanone has three carbon atom chains and the condensed molecular formula \(C_3H_6O\). The structure of acetone is CH3-CH2-CHOCH3-CO-CH3CH3-CHO-CH3CH3-COO-CH3.2.Classify the following compounds based on the pattern of carbon chain and give their structural formula: (i) Propane (ii) Benzene (iii) Cyclobutane (iv) Furan

 

i. The compounds in which the carbon atoms form a chain-linked in a linear pattern or branched are called as homocyclicheterocyclic acyclicacryclic or open-chain compounds. Example propane (\(CH_3-CH_2-CH_3\))

 

ii. Benzene is an example for carbocyclic compound. Carbocyclic (acryclicacyclic heterocyclic homocyclic) compounds are those in which the chain contains only carbon atoms.

 

iii. Cyclobutane is an example for carbocyclic compound. Carbocyclic (heterocyclic acyclic acryclichomocyclic) compounds are those in which the chain contains only carbon atoms.

 

iv. Furan is an example for heterocyclic compound. In homocyclicacyclic heterocyclic acryclic compounds, the chain contains carbon as well as other atoms such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, and so on.
