In the previous class, we have learned about natural numbers.
Natural numbers are \(1\), \(2\), \(3\),…. They are also called as positive numbers.
Have you ever heard about negative numbers?

Yes, we heard these numbers in day-to-day life.
Negative numbers are \(-1\), \(-2\), \(-3\),…. They come below zero.
We have also learned about whole numbers.
Whole numbers are \(0\), \(1\), \(2\), …. It is also called as non-negative numbers.
Now, let us define integers.
Integers are the set of positive and negative numbers, including zero. Usually, it is written as …, \(-3\), \(-2\), \(-1\), \(0\), \(1\), \(2\), \(3\), ….
Some facts about integers:
1. The positive and the negative numbers together are called as Signed numbers. They are also called as Directed numbers.

2. If a number has no sign, then it is a positive number.

3. ‘\(–\)’ symbol in front of a number is read as 'negative' or 'minus'. For example, \(-1\) is read as minus \(1\) or negative \(1\).
