After the discovery of the continent in the 15th century, due to the availability of resources and opportunity to explore it, people from various parts of the world started settling in North America. Most of the present North Americans are descendants of settlers from other parts of the world. Europeans were the first among them. They inhabited North America in the 16th century.
 
Only the small groups of native Americans remain today, and they follow a traditional way of life.

To a great extent, the distribution of population varies in North America. Compared to the USA, Mexico and Canda are less densely populated. Canada has a population density of about \(3 - 4\) persons per Sq. km.
