Two figures are similar if every side or angle is proportional to the corresponding side or angle of the other figure.

Consider the examples.

The above two fish tanks are the same, but their sizes are different.

Similarly, the two refrigerators are the same, but their sizes are different.

Hence, we can conclude that two objects are similar if they are of the same shape but not necessarily of the same size.
